Welcome to Our Blog!
"We never tell the story whole because a life isn't a story; it's a whole Milky Way of events and we are forever picking out constellations from it to fit who and where we are." --Rebecca Solnit, The Faraway Nearby

We are Kevin and Stacy, and we bought an Amel Super Maramu in September of 2017. Kevin was sailing at a young age with his dad and step-mom and helped sail their Passport 40 to Mexico at the first Baja Haha about 26 years ago. Needless to say, Kevin, a pilot, adventure rider, and outdoor enthusiast, took a liking to sailing.
I’m relatively new to sailing…and Kevin was sweet enough to teach me on a 23-foot Compac sailboat (see pics below), which we owned for a couple of years. Most of the sailing we did was in and around Channel Islands Marina (we loved sailing and just hanging out around that marina). But the almost 3 hour drive made it challenging (see "Our First Adventure" about how many boats we looked at before settling on an Amel.)

It was during this time that we began following various you-tube sailors, who enticed us with stories of resiliency and adventure, not to mention a simplicity of living in a small space while exploring a great big world. It didn’t take long to catch the bug of wanting to “get out there!” Like many new and seasoned sailors, the appeal for us is the ability to travel--and do so in a way that doesn't break the bank, doesn't involve long TSA lines, and gives us the opportunity to explore what we're made of while we learn about other cultures. Every sailor we've listened to or read about says very definitively that sailing "has changed" them in markedly positive ways.

January 2020

Season 1 is now complete! We sailed almost 2500 nautical miles and visited 34 locations--traveling from Morro Bay, California, to the Sea of Cortez. We anchored in 29 locations, stayed in 5 marinas, and had a total of 11 people on FF during our 4 month journey. It was challenging and exhilarating, so next season in the Sea of Cortez we plan to put the "cruising" in our lifestyle/itinerary. Stay tuned!
